Company Background

Workato was founded by people who had previously built some of the best known integration and data management tools on the market. Between them, Vijay Tella (CEO), Gautham Viswanathan (CPO) and Harish Shetty (SVP Engineering) have held senior engineering, architecture and leadserhip roles at both Tibco and Oracle.

In 2013 these experienced tech leaders took the knowledge they had gained on the job to design a new breed of integration platform by founding Workato.

In 2021 Workato secured $200M in Series E funding valuing the business at $5.7B and despite still having $160M from prior funding rounds. The funds will be used to further develop Workato's integration and automation platform with a goal of further accelerating their customers' to innovation and transformation efforts.

Code, Low Code & No Code

Workato stands apart from it's competitors in having delivered a platform that supports enterprise grade integration platforms while also giving non-technical users a no code interface to promote the concept of the citizen integrator.

Where more power is needed than the visual design canvas offers, the user interface provides access to a toolkit of functions that can be used for simple numeric or string functions through to the implementation of more complex logic.

Developers can go even further and have the power to add new functinality and create custom connectors by leveraging the Ruby SDK.

Data Transformation

Workato has an intuitive data mapper that allows a user to browse input data structures and drag the data points of interest to their target location for quick data mapping and transformation.

Pros

Workato is one of our favourite iPaaS products on the market. With native support for pub/sub patterns, lookup tables and more it is possible to quickly build very clean and robust integrations. It provides most value to businesses looking to implement robust EIPs as well supporting the citizen integrator.

Cons

The pricing model is not the clearest and a careful assessment of requirements is needed to understand the total cost of ownership.
